We're Remaking History

Kronenberger & Sons Restoration, founded in 1946, is a third-generation family owned and operated firm, specializing in the historic restoration, historic preservation and adaptive re-use of period structures. We are experienced craftspeople with the knowledge, skills and expertise to return usability to older structures while helping them meet the requirements of the 21st century.

Our goal is to balance passionate commitment to historic preservation with sensible strategies and practices.

The roots of our business are in historic preservation, and we continue to be dedicated to helping protect our architectural heritage today. Older buildings are special. They have lasted this long for a reason, the quality of materials and craftsmanship are unmatched by today’s methods. They can continue to withstand the test of time with proper stewardship. Our communities, and our environment, benefit from preserving older buildings, and we are proud to have our work be an integral part of that effort.

Our Middletown, Connecticut location houses a full shop devoted to the restoration of windows and doors. Our skilled, full-time team of craftspeople specialize in glazing and painting, as well as the woodwork and carpentry required for restorations. Having a shop of dedicated window restorers ensures that every detail, down to the smallest fixture and element, is met with the same regard for accuracy and faithful restoration.

In addition to windows and doors, our shop works on paneling, shutters, trims, moldings, railings, and all associated metal hardware. We also restore windows and doors on-site when needed, and perform complete new window and door replacements when called for using historically accurate substitutes.
