UConn Poultry Facility

It is no wonder that the University of Connecticut is well known for their extensive agriculture and animal science programs, having had a poultry facility on their Storrs campus since the early 1940s. Currently, their facilities, including their poultry facility, provide a hands-on learning experience for more than 400 undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Animal Sciences. The Poultry Unit houses close to 3,000 chickens, used under the school’s discretion for the development of chicks to adulthood, where chickens are used for egg layers, meat production or breeder chickens. Nearing the end of 2004, Kronenberger & Sons built additional facilities within UConn’s Poultry Unit. The new state-of-the-art facility opened in 2005 and represents the most up-to-date industry standards for a high-tech poultry housing and hatchery, as stated on UConn’s website. The new facilities include special housing used for specific research on mating, research on genetics, class work, club activities, student work studies, and internships. Kronenberger & Sons was responsible for the entire ground-up construction of the new facilities.
