This historic city hall can be found in the bustling Market Square along the Chicopee River Reservoir, an offshoot of the Connecticut River, located in Chicopee, Massachusetts. It was built in 1871 and designed by Charles Edward Parker (1826–1890), who modeled the building and its prominent 147-foot tower after the renowned Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Italy. The police station was originally located in the basement of City Hall; however, it was moved in 1929. The building is still used for city offices. Kronenberger & Sons completed masonry restoration on the tower’s old brick structure by selective repointing and replacing of worn out brick in the front facade as well as in the top portion of the 147-foot tower. A major shoring and structural stabilization of the large front stained-glass window was also part of our scope of work. Chicopee City Hall is #74002052 on the National Register of Historic Places.
